Attendance and Truancy

The Board of Education emphasizes the values of regular and prompt attendance in enabling students to profit fully from the school program. However, the administration is encouraged to view the question of each student’s attendance in the light of what is best for the student educationally.

The District may request written verification of a student’s absence due to illness from a licensed physician.

The Board recognizes the value of consistent attendance in school and authorizes the Superintendent to develop procedures for handling students who have an excessive number of absences and/or are truant. District services may be offered to a student who is experiencing attendance problems including: parent-teacher conferences, health evaluation by the school nurse, counseling services provided by the school social worker or psychologist, or alternative educational programs.
